Pedalling Pilgrims

Every year thousands of people leave behind their material possessions, pack a few things into a small rucksack and head to Northern Spain to follow one of the ancient Pilgrim Routes to Santiago de Compostela.

From what I've read, a pilgrim's journey can be a potent combination of physical challenge, solitude, companionship, contemplation and spiritual enlightenment. But I'm not sure how it will be for us.

I get the physical challenge bit. And with two tandems, two trailers, three children and the Pyrenees to cross in the first week I'm sure we'll all get that pretty quickly. But with three kids age seven and under, I just can't imagine where there'll be time for solitude, contemplation or spiritual enlightenment.

Still, it's sure to be a cycling celebration of family life and like all our adventures together, a journey that will feed and nurture our family spirit.
